Kicked It Up A Notch

31 August 2006 at 9:14 AM

I shot a 48 yesterday. The score sucks. I am going to play lots of golf this weekend and work on my mental game. The physical part of the game is fine but my head is what ruins it for me.

Rainy Tuesday

30 August 2006 at 11:20 AM

Did the swim Tuesday evening instead of Monday because of rain. After swimming, I had dinner at Oakwood Bistro with Philopolous where I broke balls about the MX5. We went for a ride to the Mazda dealership so I could drool over the Miata and he did the same with the CX7.

So far, I have convinced three people to go to the Zoom-Zoom Live tour in Chicago. After talking to Nohemi this morning, I don't think I will be going to Spain until Christmas break. The chances of actually making it to the Zoom Zoom Live thing is good now.

I have reading the blog that Edmunds.com has about their long-term test MX5. It has gotten me even more excited about the car. {here's an insight into my strange mind... while writing this I was also reading things on the Inside Line site and found this. Hmm hard top.

Lazy Monday

29 August 2006 at 9:40 AM

I've had a very lazy Monday evening/night. Got home, no swimming because of the rain, made dinner #1(aka dinner American time). Watched a couple of episodes of Dead Like Me. Talked to Nohemi. Watched more episodes of Dead Like Me. Got groceries. Talked to Philopolous. Made dinner #2 (aka dinner Spanish time). Watched more Dead Like Me until 1 o'clock.

Weekend Excitement

28 August 2006 at 9:46 AM

It started off fairly mundane, Darwin and I drove to Saginaw then had lunch with John. The excitement started during golf when they tooted the horn because of a storm. We sat around the clubhouse for a half hour until they gave us the okay to play again. We returned to hole number 6 and after teeing off the rain was back. It was bad enough that we drove towards the clubhouse, but we saw some people playing, so we turned around to continue playing. Bad idea! We ended being caught under the lightning storm, unable to move from the cluster of trees that we were hiding under. We were soaked head to toe and huddled under one cart, shitting our pants at every thunderclap, for an hour. So no golf (5 holes only, and I got a birdie on one of the holes) on Saturday and we nearly died. Later that evening, we drove back to Kalamazoo and a few hundred yards from our exit in Kalamazoo we had a blow out. So another near death experience on the same day. Not really near death because the conversation was:
Me: What the fuck is that? The road must be fucked up.
Darwin: {moves to another lane} It's a flat.
Me: Just drive it to the exit.
Darwin: {moves to the shoulder}
Me: Pull over, pull over!
I called for a tow truck and Darwin called Jeannie. She brought a sledge hammer because the flat tire was welded stuck on the wheel hub. The tow truck arrived as we finished attaching the spare. His flashy lights helped in slowing down the assholes that just fly by without even changing lanes. So that was it for Saturday.

Sunday, I went to play golf with Travis and Daniel at Eastern Hills. I started with a bogey, then 4 pars in a row (all missed birdie attempts) where I ended up shooting 40. So it was a very memorable weekend, with the quote of the weekend "He forgets some of the strokes".

I shot a 40 today at Eastern with Travis and Daniel.

Zoom Zoom Live

25 August 2006 at 10:51 AM

If there's nothing else more important going on in my life on October 7-8, 2006, I am planning to head to the Zoom Zoom Live at Chicago. I need to register soon.

Tom mentioned this site and is probably handy prior to trying out a new restaurant.

!CRUNCH!

22 August 2006 at 10:48 AM

That was the sound my balls getting broken again. The Atlantic Ocean isn't buffer enough. I spent 40 minutes on the phone with Nohemi trying to figure out something that tantrum girl is currently crying about. She doesn't know how to count or has applied far too much blonde coloring on her hair that it's seeping into her peanut-sized brain.

Long Weekend

20 August 2006 at 6:44 PM

Friday & Saturday, Mackinac Island was cool. My butt is still sore from the 9 mile bike ride around the island. I have blisters on both feet from walking with fancy flip flops in the rain. Other than my injuries everything else was cool. The drive up was at a relaxed pace so it didn't seem that long and the drive down we managed in about four and a half hours.

Sunday, I dropped Esther & Co to O'Hare. It was sad to see them go, mostly all of them. I really gotten used to having Esther here. Also having Juan to play with was fun. Apolonia was cool too. But getting rid of tantrum girl was such a relief. I have never realized how one irritating person can ruin the mood of a group. I also feel that they've missed out on a lot by not having Nohemi here to show them around.

Sick Again

18 August 2006 at 12:04 AM

Friday, we will be heading to Mackinac Island/Mackinaw City. It's the last road trip until Esther and co head back to Spain. Today, Esther bought herself a Canon Rebel XT. It's such a yummy camera and I can't wait until Nohemi gets me one for my birthday. I am planning to ride a horse for the first time ever this weekend.

Revision on plans. We are going to the island early Saturday morning and spend most of the day there then head back to Kalamazoo at around 4 o'clock. Today, we will instead meander our way up to Mackinaw City and stop at things that are worth looking at.

I played 6 good holes and 3 bad ones.

The Tuesday After

15 August 2006 at 9:46 AM

Sunday... I definitely am getting older or just too stupid. After getting back from an eight hour drive, I went and swam a quater mile alone. I think that zapped that last ounce of energy that I had left.

Yesterday... yesterday was a hard day. I was exhausted from the weekend and all the driving and had very little time on Sunday to recuperate. I had my second nose bleed in the shower. I had a nose bleed at work a couple of months ago but prior never had one in my life. After work, I tried to take a nap but ended up watching an episode of Stargate Atlantis. After my call to Nohemi, we headed to the go-cart place across the airport and ended up going three times or around 30 laps. Plus bowling between the second and last go at the track.

Today, I am a bit ugh.

Here's a couple of pictures from Cedar Point.

Millennium Force

Kitchener, Ontario

12 August 2006 at 9:02 PM

Two tours later we finally made it to Toronto and now on our way back to Kalamazoo. The trip got changed around and instead of doing things in Toronto, we ended up spending more time in Niagara Falls. The tours were cool and was worth the money. However, if I had to do it all over again, I would have spent more time in Toronto instead.

I have but one complaint and it is personality issues. One of co-travellers has a major character fault. She fucking has tantrums like a little kid. It's cute on a kid, it's absolutely retarded on an adult. When she doesn't find something to her liking, it instantly turns into a headache?! She needs to grow the fuck up!

Cedar Point

11 August 2006 at 12:31 AM

It was a blast!

We got out of Kalamazoo close to 10 o'clock and arrived at Cedar Point around 1:30PM. First to be riden was Demon Drop, then something, then something, then Millennium Force! I know it's been beaten by some roller coaster in Japan in height and speed but nonetheless it was tall and fast. The Power Tower was awesome too. Juan and I rode that one twice, once with the downward drop of 240 feet and the other of an upward thrust of 240 feet. The rides had very short lines. The worse one was Dragster which was 1.5 hours but there was a malfunction. The next longest wait was Millennium Force at 45 minutes which is very acceptable. Other rides only had 15 minute lines. My equilibrium is still a bit messed up from the rides.

Now, we're in North Olmsted, Ohio close to Cleveland. And I should sleep because I did a lot of riding and driving today.

Recap

09 August 2006 at 11:38 PM

Tonight's recap. Played golf until 8:30ish. Got some stuff from D&W to make chicken adobo. Cooked rice & chicken adobo and let simmer. Crossed the street to the clubhouse for a quick swim. Juan and I swam 300 yards. Headed home and ate dinner. Oh yeah, I lost 6 balls during league but make one of those a mulligan adds 5 strokes to my score. I also shot a 9 on the last hole and still managed a 50. How's that possible?

Active

I guess, when you have lots of activities blogging becomes lame. I must be very lame because I have been fully booked the past few days and still I blog. Monday, Travis, Juan and I did the half mile Monday swim. Yesterday, I swam 5 laps after hitting some balls on the driving range with Juan. Today, walked 9 on the league and we're planning to jump into the pool for a few laps. Tomorrow, we are heading to Cedar Point then to Niagara Falls then to Toronto then to wherever.

Chicago

07 August 2006 at 11:17 AM

After work Friday, I headed to O'Hare to pick Esther & Co. The drive was slow, tedious and traffic packed. I wasn't too concerned because I knew I had enough time. After a couple of hours of on-and-off traffic jams I started to worry. But in the back of my mind I was thinking "they're not going anywhere and would probably call when they got out". So after 3.5 hours of driving (normally minus the summer road construction it takes 2.5 hours) I arrived, parked, ran in and immediately bumped into Esther who just got out of customs. So the weekend started off perfect.

We went to the hotel, checked in and chilled. Esther and I went to Subway & Target while the rest of the group went to sleep. Saturday started with breakfast (Note to self: keep your regular routine of not eating breakfast) then headed out to the Cumberland Park n Ride. Got a little lost and ended up at I-294 but took the Irving Park exit immediately and found Cumberland quickly... after a pit stop to Mc Donalds. For further explanation, see note to self. Parked at the Cumberland station and hopped on the train to downtown. Jumped off the Washington station and walked three blocks to Millennium Park (after a quick stop to Walgreens). After wandering around the park we went to Navy Pier to try and catch a water taxi to the Sears Tower to go up the SkyDeck. After, we walked 15 some odd blocks to do a bit of shopping at the Magnificent Mile. We went in a GNC, Niketown and the Apple store plus window shopping. After the Apple store we crawled our way to the closest L station. Switched once from the Red to Blue line and we were headed back to the hotel. Dinner was Portillo's hot dogs and pretty much rounded off our day. Sunday was done by car. After breakfast and check out, we drove to the city. Express lanes all the way and took the Ohio Street exit then headed east towards the water. We drove up and down Lake Shore Drive and stopped at the Alder planetarium for photos of the skyline.

We also checked out the United Center which is currently under construction. Circue de Soleil - Corteo is playing there now. After that came lunch at Chinatown but before lunch was a stroll around Chinatown. After lunch, a not so relaxed drive back to Kalamazoo. It involved a bit of road rage that I don't care to elaborate right now.

Picasa for Macs! Google is showing love for the Mac. I have to try it out tonight.

48

02 August 2006 at 9:55 PM

It was terribly hot again tonight during golf but was somewhat bearable riding a cart. I played okay and shot a 48. It was a shotgun start and I know I shot a par on hole 9 but the rest were bogeys and doubles and a +3 on a hole.

Something From Nohemi

I thought it was worth posting. It's called a Pmate and does exactly what it sounds like.

Note To Self: fdisk /mbr

01 August 2006 at 10:18 AM

fdisk /mbr is now fixmbr using the Recovery Console on XP.
If Recovery Console not installed
Pop XP Install CD in and Run
x:\i386\winnt32.exe /cmdcons

Restart into Recovery Console and change to appropriate drive and type command FIXMBR

It all started when I blasted my play computer and installed Trixbox 1.1. I was having issues reloading XP back into the computer. There was some leftover GRUB stuff and I don't know how clear the master boot record any other way. My solution was to plug the non cooperating hard drive into my other computer and did the above steps.
