Monomania

29 September 2006 at 2:09 PM

Dictionary.com's Word of the Day is monomania.
mon‧o‧ma‧ni‧a[mon-uh-mey-nee-uh, -meyn-yuh] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun
1.(no longer in technical use) a psychosis characterized by thoughts confined to one idea or group of ideas.
2.an inordinate or obsessive zeal for or interest in a single thing, idea, subject, or the like.
It applies to me and my current obsession with the Mazda MX5. I checked out Mazda's website and see what my supplier discount is on the 2007 retractable hard top model. With my supplier discount it'll cost twenty seven and a half. It looks like I am making the whole thing fiscally inviable.

The Funniest Shit I Have Ever Seen...

27 September 2006 at 11:07 PM

Running

I am not a good runner. I tried last night on the treadmill then today around the block. Both times my foot cramped up after running. I bought shoes for running... I never got cramps with my Vans but why do I get them with running shoes? I thought last night was because it was on the treadmill at the treadmill's pace. Tonight though, I was running on my own pace on the road. Do I not know how to run?

Switch Hosting Places

26 September 2006 at 10:37 AM

I had written a whole spiel about this but it wasn't really that interesting. So to make it short, I moved to GoDaddy like the rest of the posse at work. I had paid about $90/year at my previous hosting place, at GoDaddy it has gone down to $43/year. Let's hope that I didn't lose quality in the process.

"Venezuela has made a formal complaint to the US authorities and the United Nations after its foreign minister was detained at a New York airport."
You have high school dropouts handling the affairs of dignitaries of foreign countries when they walk through our airports. How would they know how to behave appropriately, because of the prevalent tactlessness that is the norm in U.S. society, and you end up with these kinds of faux pas.

Not so long ago, Prince Felipe of Spain's luggage was searched while passing through the U.S. Yet another blunder by our airport authorities. They tend to search the wrong people all the time! It's this political correctness/sense of righteousness based solely on U.S. values that is frankly embarrassing to hear about. The kind of behavior like searching grandma Betty's shoes before boarding and letting Akbar through unhindered. What's that all about?

The foreign minister of Venezuela will not blow up a plane. He makes far too much money to warrant such desperate behavior. Felipe is a prince and he's going to inherit an entire country. So let people with diplomatic immunity through because you can't do shit to them even if you found a condom full of cocaine up their asses. You just make us look stupid to the rest of the world.

Fearless

I watched Jet Li's Fearless tonight. I was sitting around watching TV and felt like going to the movies. They had so many trailers for the movie that the trailer bit lasted for well over a quarter of an hour! By the time the movie started, I forgot what movie I came to the theater to watch. The movie was typical and entertained me.

We Won!

23 September 2006 at 7:38 PM

We won the outing this year! The previous years, we've always lost to a team from South Bend. This year, the horrible conditions and luck that we had on our side gained us our first win. We finished 8 under par. I also won closest to the pin on hole number 12.

Require A License

I just finished watching a crash test in the show Fifth Gear. They slammed a Renault Espace (minivan) against a Land Rover Discovery (SUV) and the result was surprising. The driver of the SUV would have died and the design of the Espace would have allowed the driver to walk away from the 40mph crash. Both cars in the test were going 40mph at opposite directions.

Sure, it's supposed to be safer. It's a similar mentality adopted in the nuclear (or nuke-lar) arms race. No one has ever studied the effect of the size of these SUVs or minivans. Is it just me or not getting into an accident in the first place is a more preferable scenario? People with SUVs and minivans always cut people off because they receive no extra training on driving a longer vehicle. Motorcycle riders have to obtain a motorcycle license. Truck drivers have to do the same. Why not require a license for driving an SUV or minivan? At least all these drivers will be forced to learn (a little bit better) to drive their vehicles. And it'll keep us car drivers safer from these reckless, lumbering, blind-spot filled, multi-ton accidents waiting to happen.

Annual Golf Outing

22 September 2006 at 10:41 PM

Tomorrow is the golf outing for work. It'll be held at Thornapple Creek Golf Course. I have finally finished my buying of door prices just a little while ago. I hope the rain won't kill our outing.

I finally brought home my runner up trophy and I have six of them. Four champions and two runner ups, plus the most improved from back in 1998. I kind of understand why Darwin opted for a dozen Nike One Platinum golf balls instead of a trophy this year... no, not really.

Need Clothes

20 September 2006 at 10:22 PM

I have been having this urge to buy clothes for the fall today. The only thing is that there is nothing to buy around here that looks good to me. This is the price that one pays for living in the boondocks. I have been thinking of getting black/dark clothes.

Update:
After work yesterday, I looked around for clothes. The one major issue that I have is that it is nearly impossible to find my size. The outspoken fat asses of this country have changed the landscape of clothes sold. You only find mediums through quintuple extra large and so on but never a small. Certainly those skeleton-like models aren't a size medium or large! So where are the small clothes (that would fit me perfectly) hidden? They have specialty stores for fat people, why not have one for the non-gluttonous people? Maybe we are too softly spoken whilst we eat our four grapes for breakfast.

Yummy Club

16 September 2006 at 6:50 PM

I was about to shoot a 38 but doubled the last hole for a 40. That was probably the best 75 bucks that I have added to my bag. I can chip at the green or should I say I can attack the green now!

Friday

As I got in my car to head home this afternoon, I took my jacket off. It was 80 degrees outside and the jacket was not needed. I noticed a piece of paper in my pocket. I took it out and to my surprise it was my state tax return. So this weekend I have cash that I thought I already spent but actually stuffed in my pocket last May.

I drove to Grand Rapids this evening to buy my gap wedge. I got a Cleveland chrome 588 51 degree gap wedge. I can't wait to try it out tomorrow.

I was curious if I could see the Top Gear studio from one the online maps. It looks like the studio is in Enstone Airfield, Enstone, Oxfordshire.

This post is for Andrea's friend Nicole. We had a conversation about "one for the pink and another for the stink". Here are variations that I found from my sources online.

Grouchy

13 September 2006 at 7:55 PM

Today, I was in a bad mood. I was quiet on the outside but hysterical in the inside. But I think, I have settled down towards the afternoon. I hate it when things are made complicated when it should be simple and straightforward. Anyway, I am over that.

I played around with iTunes 7 and added album art to all my songs. The new FrontRow-ish feature is nifty and I like it.

Canon Digital Rebel XTi

Tom dropped off an article about the Canon Digital Rebel XTi. Nohemi promised me one for my birthday... so I can't wait to turn 34!

Granola Bar

I am currently addicted to the Kellogg's Special K strawberry granola bar. I've eaten a box worth in two days. The last time I was hooked on anything breakfast food related was a decade or so ago with the Kellogg's Strawberry Pop-Tarts cereal.

The past couple of days, I have been über lazy. Last night, I made callos for dinner and watched Syriana. The night before was Sommersault for a movie and I forgot the food bit. Both movies were excellent. I also have Goal! on its way from Netflix.

Golf This Weekend

10 September 2006 at 6:09 PM

Yesterday, I walked 9 at Milham Park and shot a 46. Today, I played Heritage Glen with Travis and shot a 96. I got tired at the end and messed up a lot.

Michael Schumacher's Last Season

Another Michael retiring that will drastically alter the face of his sport. I am curious how next season will be like without him. Not having a guy to compare yourself against in real-time. Sure you can attack his records but Alonso said it best with the comment about having a win against Michael is special. Schumy will definitely be missed!

Fishy

09 September 2006 at 3:45 PM

I watched the qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix and didn't see what Massa was complaining about. I guess that's what he meant by doing everything to help Michael. I like championship fight between both drivers but am not too pleased with the off track tactics. Remember Michael's spin in the Grand Prix of Monaco. The stewards penalized him there (Monaco GP) but he deserved to be because of what he did... deliberately. Now they penalized Alonso even though his actions "might not have been deliberate". It looks fishy to me.

The Suck

08 September 2006 at 12:08 PM

I've gone through my logs this morning. January 2006 I had 2600 unique visitors and the trend went down. As of August 2006, I only got 600 unique visitors. I got boring.

Runner Up #2

Since no one is posting about it... Travis and Dan won the golf league this year. Darwin and I came in second. Wednesday was championship night and Travis and Dan brought their A game and Darwin and I left ours at home. I shot a 47, Darwin a 41, Travis a 49 and Dan a 51. For some reason, I am not disappointed for losing.

Congratulations to Travis and Dan!

Crocodile Hunter Died

04 September 2006 at 11:14 AM

Nohemi just told me that she read an article that Steve Irwin, the crocodile hunter dude from Australia, died.
