It's Cayman Islands.

Yesterday

Yesterday, we dropped Travis at the airport around 6:30 in the morning. Went home and watched the Madrid mixed with naps. Went to Bendinat and got groceries after. I made lunch at Nohemi's mom's. Went to Leroy Merlin for light bulbs & Magatzem Verd for plants. Spent the evening with Abuelo. Hung out with Neus and had kebabs for a late dinner.

España Day 6

24 August 2008 at 10:12 AM

Today, we went to Bellver castle. We had seafood paella for lunch.

España Day 5

23 August 2008 at 10:05 AM

Went to the beach near Arenal this morning for a couple of hours. Had lunch at Nohemi´s mom´s... stuffed squid. Later we are going to Ca'n Joan de s'Aigo then Puerto Portals.

Update:
Had dinner at Puerto Portals with Neus added to the group. Tried to take some topless pictures from a church... and failed. We also didn't make it to Ca'n Joan de s'Aigo because Neus was a bit slow.

España Day 3

21 August 2008 at 2:27 PM

We had a pretty long excursion.

Watched a bullfight.

España Day 2

20 August 2008 at 6:33 PM

Woke up at 9:30, watched a little bit of the Olympics. Went for a walk at es blauard. Bought bread at el corte ingles. Had lunch at Nohemi´s moms... Spanish omelette & trampo. Heard about the plane crash in Madrid. Drove to Sant Elm, Porto Andraitx, Camp de Mar, Santa Ponça. We also saw Nohemi´s uncle´s old house, son Juvera in Andraitx. Had dinner with Encarna, Juan (her boyfriend, our savior), Neus, Esther, Travis, & Nohemi at an Italian restaurant called Cosa Nostra.

España Day 1

The travel to Mallorca was not without incidents. Delays and mischief from the Iberia caused us initial headches. We left late from O´Hare late and arrived late in Madrid. We were able to make it to board the plane but they have prioritize the waiting list over checked in passengers. Iberia gave our seats away and booked us on the next flight with available seats. The next flight with available seats... 4 o´clock in the afternoon! We arrive at 8 in the morning. I had to do a lot of complaning. If not for Encarna´s boyfriend working for Air Europa, I wouldn´t have been able to call Iberia´s bluff. I asked to be seated on another airline, told them that Air Europa has available seats in the 1:40 flight. The person in Iberia said that their computer shows only bisiness class seats available. I responded with, I will call my girlfriend´s sister´s friend´s boyfriend who works in Air Europa to verify. A little bit later, Iberia had tickets for us to use with Air Europa.

Had lunch at Nohemi´s mom... lamb chops. Skipped the planned siesta and walked around the old city & the cathedral. I had my gulas for dinner. Went bed early. Slept poorly... squeaky bed.

Summer in Mallorca 2008

18 August 2008 at 3:16 PM

We are in gate K19 waiting for our plane. There was a line at the
check in counter for the first time. The counter didn't open until 1
o'clock. They couldn't assign a seat to Travis until 3. We might
have to sit separately on this flight. Maybe he's lucky, he'll be
bumped up to business class.

My 2wire modem/router combo thing from AT&T died this morning. No internet! Plus, I cannot order another one because I am leaving for Spain tomorrow. This is a disaster.

Almost There

16 August 2008 at 9:25 AM

All the necessary out of office messages and voice mail greetings have been set. In a couple of days, I get to be with Nohemi again. Travis will have his first taste of Spain. I will try to get myself sick of gulas (not to be mistaken with goulash). Something that I managed to do with döner kebabs last Christmas. I hope Nohemi and Esther have come up with a schedule of places to visit and things to do. I am looking forward to set up the beach tent at Es Trenc or any other beach. Mostly, I am looking forward to the different pace of life.

Summer Fun

07 August 2008 at 9:10 PM

I just dropped off Nohemi at O'Hare this afternoon. I haven't been by myself in a while and I feel lonely at home. I might run some errands to keep my mind occupied. Print pictures etc.

WTF?!

04 August 2008 at 9:46 PM

With all the stupid things that the government is doing in the guise of "homeland security" actually is making me sympathize with the crazy militia people. The border cops can actually take your laptop/computer and hold it for months for whatever reason. You can be black, or have slant eyes, or have a rag on your head... that's valid enough of a reason to take your laptop.

The Beach

02 August 2008 at 11:42 PM

Travis, Nohemi and I spent the afternoon at the beach in South Haven today. It's somewhat of preparation for Spain. Can't show up there and get cooked lobster-like in the first beach outing. Gotta have some pigments activated prior to taking the plunge. We're planning on another day at the beach tomorrow. I found a beach tent at MC Sports but will probably just take it to Spain and stick with the beach umbrella for now. A lady asked Nohemi at the beach today where we bought our beach mat thing. It was a lucky find from TJ Maxx. We bought it after getting mats at World Market prior to the stop at TJ Maxx.

I was hoping that Adrian could come to the beach with us but due to technical difficulties that plan was a bust. I hope he's having fun at the grandparents.

MacBook Week One

I haven't let my MacBook shutdown since taking it out of the box last Monday. The occasional sleep during transport from home to work and back. I have been saving some What Not to Wear episodes from TiVo to DVD so we can watch it in Spain. Esther has never seen the show. But in order to watch it there it has to be converted from NTSC to PAL. Toast Titanium 9 does everything and was worth the $99. The process takes hours and and has the MacBook chugging at nearly 100%. But it doesn't bog down nor render the computer unusable. It actually functions flawlessly, sans the lag or chatter. I am very impressed by the performance of the processor. I wonder how much of it is processor and how much the OS' doing to make it function so smoothly.
