Happy 2009

31 December 2008 at 8:22 PM

Pessimism was 2008. My new year's resolution is to be more optimistic. It's so easy to get caught up and expect negative things. It's time to be more positive, regardless of how things turn out. Plus, I am starting my P90X routine when I get back to Kalamazoo. I had started 2008 right but reverted in my old depressing ways. I need to be more aware of regressing back into my old habits. All the negative people in my life need to be kept at an arm's length. Positive influences need to be embraced.

Happy New Year world! I hope everyone the very best for 2009. Now off to bed so I can wake up and see the first day of January.

Uncertainty

30 December 2008 at 6:32 PM

In a couple of weeks, I will be heading back to reality. I just saw an article on CNN today about the flood in Grand Rapids. I don't really know how I will handle the switch from the wonderful weather in Mallorca to the uncertain weather in Michigan. Michigan... nay.. the world is just full of uncertainty at present.

Three Beers

28 December 2008 at 5:41 PM

On a somewhat empty stomach, three beers is a lot for me. I am a little buzzed right now. We just got back from a bar/pub in Bunyola. We watched Neus' brother play in a pub. It was cool. They did covers of songs.

Ruda

26 December 2008 at 8:30 PM

We all took a ritual bath of rue herbs. Apparently, ruda or rue herbs is illegal in Spain. I am not sure why. The whole bath ends with a cinnamon rinse and oiling of the body...head to toe with an oil that Margarita brought back with her from Ecuador. It is very aromatic and soothing. However, Nohemi and I are still up at 2:30 in the morning. Margarita was the one who brought up the whole thing. Shamans use the rue herb for medicinal purposes. Ancient Greeks also are users of the herb. I would defnitely do it again because I smell so yummy and my hair feels so soft.

Sukiyaki Western Django

23 December 2008 at 6:53 PM

I am glad I haven't been freezing my ass off like the rest of the people in Michigan. There isn't anything special or extraordinary going on here but I am relaxed and at ease. I can't complain about that. I wanted to post daily here but having a couple of journals to write in makes it difficult. This blog has become a lower priority journal.

Day One

20 December 2008 at 4:43 PM

Nohemi and I are in Mallorca. Our flight was uneventful. Business class was nice. I got "air sick" and ended up throwing up in the bathroom. It was as they were serving dinner and didn't want to heave what I ate into a bag in front of people eating. Slept very well. Watched Get Smart & Nim's Island. Arrived at Barajas around 9:30AM. Went to T4-HJK gates to find out our flight was at T4 Satellite - MRSU gates. Had bullit for lunch & gulas for dinner. Watched Madrid play against Valencia & now watching Espanyol v Atletico Madrid.

Perks

19 December 2008 at 3:50 PM

The lounge that you get to wait in when flying business is a heck of a lot swankier than the rock hard chairs at the gates. The Admiral Club in Terminal 2 is on the 3rd floor. It has a quiet room, a smoking room, and others that I haven't explored. This flying in business class is all new to me. I have always been herded at the back of the plane with the rest of the economy class passengers. Euphemized as tourist class by the airline I am using. I have to walk around with Nohemi so I can have more adventures in the O'Hare waiting room. Nohemi and I had a turkey panini but I am jonesing for a Chicago dog with everything on it.

P90X Update

17 December 2008 at 5:50 PM

I have an Iron Gym, mat, weights and a clean laundry room to set a TV & DVD player. I am doing this next year. I will complete the 90 days it requires. It's promising because the messing around that I do with the pull up bar has generated results. I know that at the end of this program, I will get the results I want.

The Big Bang Theory

16 December 2008 at 9:49 AM

"All I need is a healthy ovum and I can grow my own Leonard Nimoy" I was laughing so hard that tears were flowing down my cheeks, with this scene, from last night's episode. Nohemi was laughing her ass off too.

Elephant In The Room

11 December 2008 at 2:08 PM

It is difficult to think or talk about anything besides the problem with the automotive industry. It seems to be a secret hidden from Washington that hundreds, or even thousands, of companies that supply the big three are affected. People will be losing their jobs next year. People will be losing their houses next year. People will be losing their cars next year. People will be moving to warmer places so that they don't have to freeze in their cardboard box next year. But the Republican senators and representatives' reaction or sentiment is that we deserve it. Of course it is euphemized as "the taxpayers can't be made to subsidized a failed company". It isn't a single entity that has failed but an entire industry. Failed as a result of the unregulated practices of the banking sector. Failed because of the free and open market doctrine that the Republicans believe in.

There's a lot to be angry about but I am going to Spain in a week. I'll just have to shot the elephant with a tranquilizer dart and suspend all this worrying until I return. Hopefully, I will still have a job then.
